Advices on accommodation in Japan
WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF ACCOMMODATIONS AVAILABLE?
Several types of accommodation exist in Japan. The list below presents the main types, from the cheapest to the most expensive (price per person and per night):
- from ~US$50 in a guest-house (shared-house)
- from ~US$100 in a Western style hotel
- from ~ US$150 in a ryokan (traditional inn)
From two travelers and especially for groups or families, Airbnb accommodation types (called minpaku) used to be convenient and cost-effective. However, Japanese law changed in early 2018 and this type of accommodation has become unreliable and risky. We certainly not recommend it to our customers.
