Hiroshima and Miyajima are must-sees for any travel in Japan.
These two destinations are really close to each other and their visit can be planned over an excursion from Kansai area. As they are located west less than two hours from Kyoto, a day-trip is possible but superficial. We recommend staying one night to fully discover Hiroshima and Miyajima, over two consecutive days.

The tramway in Hiroshima is cheap; moreover the connection to Miyajima is free for JR Pass holders. Accommodations are more expensive on Miyajima island than on Honshu mainland.
